Coke sends billionaire Gates begging

"Anyone got some change for a Coke? I'll pay you back," says Bill Gates, Microsoft Corp. chairman and reputedly the world's richest man, in a new ad for Coca-Cola. The spot will air during Microsoft's 30-minute TV show promoting Windows 95, set to run Aug. 27 and 28 in markets across the country. Coca-Cola Co., Eastman Kodak Co., Compaq Computer Corp. and CompUSA are sponsoring the program. In Coke's spot, Mr. Gates goes to the Coke machine down the hall from his office but finds his pockets empty.

Separately, Coca-Cola Co. has become the fourth major sponsor of the $14 million College Football Hall of Fame, opening tomorrow in South Bend, Ind. Bayer Corp.'s Alka-Seltzer and the U.S. Postal Service also signed on earlier this week; in early August Burger King Corp. announced its sponsorship. Each paid between $250,000 and $600,000 for various multi-year category-exclusive sponsorships of the facility, which will showcase the history and highlights of college football.
