(April 11, 2001) -- New York-based theglobe.com, a community site which has been affected by the Internet industry downturn, said Tuesday that it was eliminating 31% of its staff, or 59 positions. The company also said that it would make reductions in "discretionary spending and contracted services," according to a statement. Theglobe.com said its core asset, gaming properties, would be an area in which it would continue to invest. -- Catharine P. Taylor
