Compaq near decision on $300 million review

Published on .

Compaq Computer Corp., Houston, could announce a decision on a new agency as soon as tomorrow, people close to the situation said. The computer giant's account is estimated at $300 million. DDB Worldwide, the incumbent, and Grey Worldwide, both New York, are out of the contest. Insiders said the battle is between FCB Worldwide, New York, and Saatchi & Saatchi, New York and San Francisco, which has denied participating in the review. Also, Compaq is said to have named Gary Eliot, a former Ogilvy & Mather executive, to head up advertising. Compaq did not return calls seeking comment.
