The agency review process for Compaq Computer Corp.'s estimated $300 million global account is nearing a conclusion. Persons close to the process said a decision could come by tomorrow. FCB Worldwide, Grey Advertising and incumbent DDB
Worldwide, all New York, plus a fourth, unnamed agency pitched Compaq executives at company headquarters in Houston. Insiders say Grey and FCB have the edge, but particularly Grey, which currently holds the global brand assignment for Oracle Corp. Compaq and Oracle frequently partner on business deals, and Larry Ellison, Oracle chairman-CEO, and Compaq CEO Michael Capellas are known to work well together. A Compaq spokesman wouldn't confirm a time frame for a conclusion of the review.
