Compaq strikes alliances with Ancestry.com, Engage

Published on .

Compaq Computer Corp. and Ancestry.com, an online genealogy resource, have formed an e-commerce and marketing partnership, making Compaq the premier PC vendor on the MyFamily.com and Ancestry.com sites, while Ancestry.com will broaden its member base through joint online and offline marketing initiatives. The alliance underscores Compaq's efforts to integrate its consumer PC business into Web holding company CMGI's network of leading Internet companies; CMGI has an approximate 30% stake in Ancestry.com. The Compaq and Ancestry.com affiliate partnership will consist of revenue sharing on sales of computer goods, online subscriptions and other genealogy-related products. In addition, a co-branded Web page will be created linking Ancestry.com and MyFamily.com with Compaq.com. Ancestry.com and MyFamily.com will also feature links to the Compaq.com online store.

In related news, Compaq and Engage, a provider of profile-driven Internet marketing solutions majority-owned by CMGI, formed a strategic Internet partnership, with Compaq to deploy Engage's Precision Profiling and Accipiter AdManager Technology on Compaq.com. Compaq also announced it has made an equity investment in Engage. Terms were not disclosed.
