CompUSA into PCs

Published on .

CompUSA said it will launch this fall a CompUSA brand of build-to-order PCs that can be ordered over the Web, by phone or in the retailer's superstores. CompUSA will compete with direct sellers Dell Computer Corp. and Gateway 2000; CompUSA's point of difference will be after-sale service through its stores. CompUSA is the latest non-direct PC player to take on the mail-order giants; Compaq Computer Corp. is shifting its business PC emphasis to build-to-order PCs, working with computer resellers including CompUSA.
