Another CompuServe exec resigns

Published on .

Keith Arnold, general manager-online retailing at CompuServe said Wednesday he's resigning from the company. He will join Sterling Commerce, also based in Columbus, Ohio, by year-end where he takes the title of industry development manager. Sterling Commerce researches and develops commerce solutions for major businesses.

Tom Cullivan, CompuServe's former director of advertising, also left the Columbus-based online service earlier this year to join Sterling Commerce. No replacement will be named for Mr. Cullivan, as a fall restructuring of the company in essence eliminated his position.

Mr. Arnold has been with CompuServe for 12 years. He said he's proud of the growth of the business's online retail services, but said that while consumer interest continues to grow, marketer interest has waned somewhat since online sales account only for a small fraction of the retail sales pie. "Interest in online shopping has fallen off on the part of marketers." he said. The online mall at CompuServe had as many as 165 retail partners last year, but now only has 100.
