CompuServe sets 'wallet,' smart agent

CompuServe Internet Division later thismonth will distribute the first browser equipped with electronic wallettechnology from Checkfree Corp., allowing users to conduct safe transactionsover the Internet. Mosaic in a Box for Windows 95 ships Aug. 24, the same dayMicrosoft Corp.'s new operating system becomes available. The software willretail for $9.95.

Separately, CompuServe members will soon have access to an online smart agentthat will retrieve information like news, weather, financial data and sportsscores for users. The software, called Rosebud, from Magee Enterprises,Norcross, Ga., will have an introductory price of $39.95 when it's releasedSept. 1; suggested retail price is $69.95. CompuServe users can download a betaversion from several forums, including the CNN Forum and the Weather Channelforum. Smart agents have been long talked about in the interactive industry butare only now becoming available. Andersen Consulting is demoing an agent thatferrets out CD prices at its BargainFinder site on the Web.
