CompuServe wins restraining order against Cyber Promotions

Published on .

CompuServe has been granted a temporary restraining order prohibiting Cyber Promotions from identifying that its mail comes from CompuServe. Cyber Promotions is a mass-mailing service that uses a variety of Internet service providers to mail out untargeted messages to e-mail accounts.

The district court ruling requires Cyber Promotions to stop using CompuServe accounts to send mail; to stop inserting a reference to a CompuServe account in mailings from Cyber Promotions; and to stop making e-mail messages look like they were sent via CompuServe.
