Conde Nast rep merges with Hong Kong agency

HONG KONG--Mathews & Associates, a Los Angeles-based sales company that represents Conde Nast titles, has formed a partnership with MediaWorks Asia as of Oct.1, dubbed Mediaworks Mathews Asia.

The company will relocate to New York at the end of 2000 after eight years in Asia, says Ronan Gardiner, general manager of Mathews & Associates in Hong Kong.

"It's a perfect fit," says MediaWorks Asia founder Kim Kenchington in Hong Kong of the partnership. MediaWorks has exclusive contracts with magazines in Asia and Europe such, as Business Traveller, Harper's and Queen (U.K.), the new Mandarin Oriental in-room magazine MO Magazine, The Times of India, the Evening Standard,The Guardian and The Nation. Mathews & Associates brings to the joint venture Conde Nast Publishing's titles, which include Conde Nast Traveler,Gourmet, Architectural Digest, Vanity Fair, Bon Appetit and Vogue.

"We also get to help Conde Nast International titles like Vogue Tiawan, Vogue Japan and VogueKorea as well as the revitalized Australian ti-tles of Vogue, Vogue Entertaining and Traveland Vogue Living," says Ms. Kenchington. "We will become the one stop shopping spot for those magazines and newspapers serving the world's grow-ing affluent consumer base in the most important international markets for Asia."
