Consortium to work on Internet porn-blocking tech

A consortium of companies including IBM Corp., Microsoft Corp., AT&T Corp., MCI Communications Corp., America Online and Netscape Communications Corp. together with the World Wide Web Consortium at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology will announce a venture Monday to develop technology for blocking pornography on the Internet, said an MIT spokeswoman. Marketers are attempting to create an industrywide blocking standard before a bill calling for strict regulation of online expression can be passed by Congress this month.
