CONTINENTAL ADDS LASER BLAST TO MARATHON

Continental Airlines highlights its role as official airline of the New York City Marathon by sponsoring the "NYC Marathon Laser Spectacular" in Central Park Oct. 26 through Oct. 31. The event includes a laser games competition. Major sponsors of the Nov. 1 race, expected to attract more than 2 million spectators, include Chase Manhattan Bank, John Hancock Financial Services, Nike, The New York Times and Runner's World.

Davidson Marketing, Chicago, has formed DMI Urban, a division targeting city-dwelling African-American, Hispanic and Asian-American consumers. DMI Urban is headed by Riley B. Davis Jr., founder of the Sadler-Davis Group specializing in sales promotions and event marketing targeting blacks. Separately, Davidson opened its first satellite office, DMI-West, based in Los Angeles.

TradeZone, Westport, Conn., has created the EventSmart division to provide event marketing services including on-site product sampling in shopping malls, transit centers, sports events, concerts and fairs.

Visa USA this month extended its sponsorship of the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team to June 30, 2003. The sponsorship includes national TV and print ad support, ski industry retail promotions, event sponsorship and on-uniform signage.
