CoolSavings acquires Surfari, creates CoolShopper search engine

Coolsavings.com, a provider of e-marketing services used by online and offline advertisers to build one-to-one customer relationships, acquired Surfari and its comparison-shopping technology. The technology will form the backbone of CoolShopper, a free consumer service that enables members to identify a comprehensive list of shopping information through a comparison-shopping engine. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. CoolShopper is expected to launch during the first quarter of 2001. Surfari founder Chris Mettler will join CoolSavings as senior product manager responsible for overseeing the integration and launch of CoolShopper.
