Coridiant acquires Indian affiliate

BOMBAY--Bates Investment India, a subsidiary of Cordiant Communications Group, has acquired a majority equity stake in Bates Clarion, a Cordiant affiliate for the last two years.

Bates Clarion is one of India's oldest agencies and claims to generate $2.3 million in revenue annually. It employs 150 staff in its three offices of Bombay, Delhi and Calcutta. According to Advertising Age figures, the agency is the country's 19th largest agency.

Major clients include Hindustan Lever, I.T.C. (a unit of British American Tobacco), Nokia and Warner-Lambert Co.
