Court TV watchers see sponsors as benefactors

A Chilton Research Services phone survey of 512 Court TV subscribers who watched at least 1 hour of live O.J. Simpson trial coverage in the past month found 65% believe ad support of Court TV constitutes a public service. Only 27% felt any live TV coverage of courtroom trials was exploitive, compared with 54% for coverage by local news, 55% for prime-time dramas, 57% for news magazines, 60% for network news, and 75% for both tabloid TV shows and daytime talk shows.
