CPM rate slows its decline

The average cost-per-thousand impression rate fell just 0.5% from the fourth quarter of last year to the first quarter of this year, compared with a 3% decline between the third and fourth quarters of 1998 and a 6% decline between 1997 and 1998 overall, according to the AdKnowledge Online Advertising Report, released April 27. Also in the report, which compiles data from more than 1,800 ad-supported Web sites, the number of sites seeking advertising grew by 27% and the number of shopping/transaction sites grew by 22% in the first quarter.
