The Cross Pen Computing Group, a division of A.T. Cross, is rolling out a new mobile pen-based scanning technology, the Cross :Convergence pen, which the company is positioning as an alternative to the :CueCat hand-held device. The Cross :Convergence features a built-in scanner that enables users to connect to Web sites or Web pages, eliminating the need to memorize URLs or search the Web for specific information. The pen initially is being sold via the company's Web site (www.cross.com). Cross :Convergence will read and store virtually all barcode formats found on thousands of products and packages as well as Digital :Convergence Cues, which are being included in numerous advertising and editorial portions of print and electronic media. Cross has signed an agreement with Digital :Convergence Inc. as the exclusive scanner pen for the Digital :Convergence platform in the U.S.
