DDB joins chase for SBC/BellSouth

Add another agency to the list of shops involved in the SBC/BellSouth wireless review. DDB Worldwide, Chicago, will participate in the competition for a new company composed of the wireless assets of BellSouth Corp. and SBC Communications, according to executives close to the situation. DDB executives couldn't be reached by deadline. An SBC spokesman would only confirm that GSD&M, Austin, Texas, and WestWayne, Atlanta, SBC and BellSouth incumbents respectively, are in the review for an estimated $170 million to $250 million in spending. The spokesman said an agency would be selected by mid-October. BBDO Worldwide, New York, also is participating in the review.
