Dearth leaving New Republic

Jeffrey Dearth, president of The New Republic and the founder of the Electronic Newsstand, has resigned to become president of the magazine group at Mecklermedia Corp., Westport, Conn. The Electronic Newsstand was founded as a way of offering magazine subscriptions online. As part of his new duties, which he takes up on Sept. 11, Mr. Dearth will oversee the company's Web site, Mecklerweb iWorld. No successor has been named at The New Republic.
