The award goes to top advertising professionals 40 and under. It will be presented at a luncheon in New York on Nov. 12. This year's recipients are:
nScott Bedbury, senior VP-marketing at Starbucks and former worldwide director of advertising for Nike. AAF said Mr. Bedbury was chosen because of his reputation for "having the ability to unlock the creative potential in brands and the people that support him."
nTimothy Mapes, director of advertising and promotion at Delta. Mr. Mapes, 31, joined BBDO in 1988 working on Delta's international ads. In 1992, he moved to Delta as manager of international advertising and promotion; he won his current post in `93.
nDavid Carey, publisher of Conde Nast House & Garden and former publisher of SmartMoney. Mr. Car-ey, 35, was honored for implementing marketing and sales efforts that made the revival of House & Garden "one of the most successful magazine relaunches in magazine history."
nTony Dieste, president of Dieste & Partners, a Dallas Hispanic agency that AAF said is the fastest-growing Hispanic agency in the country. Mr. Dieste was honored for the agency's growth and award-winning work.
nJames L. Harrington, senior partner, director of client service development at Bozell Worldwide, New York. Mr. Harrington, 35, who had handled accounts including The New York Times and Planters Nuts, was the youngest person to serve as the company's director of account services.
nLinda Srere, exec VP-group management director at Young & Rubicam, New York. Ms. Srere, 40, has been working on a Y&R new-business team that helped the agency win Showtime, Blockbuster Video and 7UP, and has also been part of a Y&R international strategy team that works to identify and win new business.
nDavid Verklin, exec VP-managing director and corporate media director, Hal Riney & Partners, San Francisco. Mr. Verklin, 40, a longtime agency media executive, is a widely cited source on media issues. He started with Y&R, where he was involved in the creation of Dentsu Y&R Partnerships, before moving to Livingston & Co., Seattle, and to Riney in `94.
