Dentsu opens new office in Bangalore, India

TOKYO -- Dentsu has opened a new liaison office in Bangalore, India, prompted by the agency's desire "not only to respond to this highly dynamic market but also to meet the demand of growing numers of corporate clients in Japan for information about the Indian advertising industry and coordinaion services," according to Koichi Sonoda, senior manager of corporate communications in Tokyo.

The Japanese agency already has two affiliates in India - Rediffusion DY&R Advertising and Everest both of which are part of the Dentsu Young & Rubicam organization.

The Dentsu Inc. Bangalore Liaison Office will be managed by Yoshiyuki Ebara, senior manager in the Asian Operations Department of the Overseas Management Division.

Dentsu plans to turn the office into an Indiabased corporation in the near future.

With a population exceeding 900 million, India has high potential for becoming an enormous market in the future," Mr. Sonoda adds.

Since the adoption of an open-market policy in 1991, India has experienced steady economic growth, and its advertising business today already constitutes a $1.5 billion market. A large number of Japanese companies, as well as major European and U.S. multinational ad agencies, are already operating in the country.

The Dentsu Group recorded gross income of nearly $1,988 million in 1997, making it is the world's fourth largest advertising organization, and Dentsu ranks first among the world's agency brands according to Advertising Age magazine.
