DIAL UNLOADS TWO BRANDS

(Aug. 28, 2001) -- Dial Corp., Scottsdale, Ariz., announced it sold its specialty personal care brands Sarah Michaels and Freeman Cosmetics to Hathi Group, Chicago, a marketer of medical equipment and personal care products.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Dial said the proceeds will be used to pay down debt.

The sale is part of Chairman-CEO Herbert Baum's year-old plan to improve results by shedding marginal businesses and focusing on core brands.

Dial's board put the entire company, which was acquired in 1997 and 1998, up for sale earlier this month, and Mr. Baum said selling the company would be his top priority.

Hathi also markets the Kirk's Castille soap brand, purchased from P&G in 1996. -- Mercedes Cardona and Jack Neff
