Diet RC to get new sweetener

Triarc Beverage Group, White Plains, N.Y., plans to launch a reformulated version of Diet RC Cola within 30 days, replacing the sweetener aspartame with sucralose, the product from Johnson & Johnson's McNeil Specialty Products division. Sucralose recently won FDA approval for use in the U.S. Triarc already markets Diet RC with the sweetener, branded Splendra, in Mexico. Blum/Herbstreith, New York, is RC Cola's agency. A spokeswoman for McNeil indicated joint marketing of the brands is likely. Separately, juice marketer Veryfine, Westford, Mass., said it will launch a five-flavor line of diet fruit juices with the sweetener later this month.
