While Digital Media Masters are a disparate lot--college drop-outs, Harvard grads, retirees and comic book collectors--they're all innovators, struggling to make the Web a thriving marketplace.
Advertising Age's third annual roundup delivers some of this year's brightest executives in interactive media and marketing. They include Sanjay Madan, 24, and Tony Hsieh, 23, whose company, LinkExchange, has quickly emerged as a leading ad network for small Web sites; Richy Glassberg, 34, general manager of Turner Interactive, who has generated an impressive streak of online ad revenue and cross-marketing relationships; and Richard Barton, 30, who oversees Microsoft's popular Expedia travel site, which expects to sell $100 million in goods and services this year.
Like last year, more than half of this year's Digital Masters are over 35, with more in their 40s than in their 20s.
While certain privacy, measurement and electronic commerce issues still need to be resolved, these executives are forging ahead, tapping new revenue streams, creating new ad models and, above all, relentlessly persevering.
