DirecTV adds partner

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Tokyo, said Monday it will take a 10% stake in digital satellite broadcaster DirecTV Japan, which plans to start digital satellite broadcasts of more than 100 channels here in 1997. Matsushita said its capital investment in U.S.-based DirecTV International's Japanese affiliate is the first by a Japanese electronics maker. But the marketer said it does not plan to produce DirecTV programming.
