Discovery appoints Latin exec

BUENOS AIRES--Discovery Communications, Latin America/Iberia, a provider of non-fiction programming, has appointed Enrique R. Martinez, as the new senior VP-general manager.

Mr. Martinez, previously VP-affiliate sales and operations, succeeds Dawn L. McCall, who was recently named president of Discovery Networks, International.

Mr. Martinez will oversee all aspects of programming, advertising sales, affiliate relations, marketing, communications and network operations for Discovery's four channels in the region: Discovery Channel, Discovery Kids, Animal Planet and People + Arts. He will also be responsible for evaluating new market opportunities and developing a stronger presence on the Internet.

During Mr. Martinez's tenure at Discovery, which he joined in1994, the company achieved the highest penetration of all multichannel networks in the regions, according to the local study Los Medios y Mercados de Latinoamerica. He also established regional offices in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico.

The Miami-based Discovery Communications, Latin America/Iberia,a unit of Discovery Communications, reaches viewers with 11 customized feeds operated from the company's Discovery TV Center.
