LONDON--Michael Volke has been named marketing director of Disney Channel Germany, set to launch late this year. Prior to joining Disney, Mr. Volke was marketing manager for Barcardi GMBH.

In August 1996, Disney and Germany's Kirch Group entered into a 10-year pay-TV agreement. The channel will be available on DF1, Germany's first digital TV platform, which was launched in July 1996.

Developed specifically for German children and their families, Disney Channel Europe will deliver a combination of originally-produced shows and acquired German and European programs.

To date, eight country-specific Disney Channels have launched outside the U.S. since 1995: Taiwan (March 1995); the U.K. (October 1996); Australia (June 1996); Malaysia (October 1996); France (March 1997); Middle East (April 1997); Spain (April 1998) and Italy (October 1998).

Plans are also underway to launch the channel in Latin America.
