Disney Internet operations announce new layoffs

Published on .

Walt Disney Co.'s Internet Group will lay off 135 people this week, affecting employees in New York, Seattle and Los Angeles. The cuts are primarily at the ABC.com and ABCNews.com Web operations and are in addition to 400 cuts last month related to the closing of Disney portal Go.com. "These layoffs will help enable us to operate in a more efficient and streamlined manner as we drive toward becoming a profitable business," said Steve Bornstein, chairman of Disney's Internet Group, in a statement. Disney's Internet Group lost $402 million in 2000.
