The Democratic National Committee June 8 breaks its first "party-building" ad of the election year. The commercial, produced by the same ad team used by Vice President Al Gore's campaign, looks remarkably like a Gore political ad. The 30-second spot features a man complaining about the high cost of prescription drugs and then Vice President Gore saying people can't afford these "ridiculously high prices"; the ad also includes a reference to a Democratic Web page and phone number. The commercial will run on TV stations in 15 states. Democratic National Committee Chairman Joe Andrew said additional spots are likely, but he joined House and Senate party leaders in saying the drug issue is one of the most politically potent. The ad was done by the Democratic team that includes Bill Knapp, Bob Shrum and Carter Eskew.
