DOLE, GOP ASSEMBLING AD GROUP

The team of executives that will try to win the White House for Sen. Bob Dole and the Republicans will be called the New Century Group. The names that make up that team have yet to be determined or disclosed.

A new TV commercial from the Republican National Committee that broke last week carries the New Century Group moniker, but it was prepared by Mike Murphy of Murphy, Pintak & Gautier, Arlington, Va.

The 30-second spot on the gas tax is being aired nationally on CNN and in spot markets.

MURPHY, STEVENS ON BOARD

Committee officials said the coalition of ad gurus includes Mr. Murphy, who did primary advertising for Tennessee Gov. Lamar Alexander, and Stuart Stevens, whose Stuart Stevens Group, New York, has been doing Sen. Dole's ads.

Messrs. Murphy and Stevens referred all questions about New Century Group's makeup to the Dole campaign, which declined to comment. The campaign is expected to unveil its ad team shortly, with a few executives from traditional agencies likely to join the mix of political ad types.

Mr. Murphy worked with Dole media strategist Don Sipple in George Bush's 1992 re-election campaign. Alex Castellanos of National Media Corp., Alexandria, Va., Sen. Phil Gramm's advertising executive, has also worked with the two and would be likely to join the team. He couldn't be reached for comment.
