Doll ads sent to FTC

Published on .

The Children's Advertising Review Unit, part of the industry's self-regulation organization under the Council of Better Business Bureaus, said it has referred advertising by Happiness Express for its Growing Up Pretty doll to the Federal Trade Commission. CARU said the advertiser "has chosen not to participate in the self-regulatory process and has not addressed CARU's concerns regarding safety and product presentation." The television commercial shows a doll being dressed up and legs and lips changing color as makeup is applied. CARU said its test of the product could not duplicate what was shown.
