Domino's Pizza delivers $120 million account review

Published on .

Domino's Pizza, Ann Arbor, Mich., launched a closed review among less than 10 agencies for the national creative portion of its $120 million account. A decision is expected by the end of December. Incumbent Campbell Mithun Esty, Minneapolis, which won the business in March 1997, is in the review. The company declined to name contenders but confirmed former agency Grey Advertising, New York, isn't participating. The review doesn't affect the $3.2 billion chain's other agency relationships. J. Walter Thompson USA, Detroit, handles regional marketing and all media buying; Don Coleman Associates, Southfield, Mich., handles African-American advertising and national project work; and Marti Flores Prieto & Wachtel, San Juan, Puerto Rico, handles Hispanic advertising. The review comes as same-store sales weaken for the nation's second-largest pizza chain. For the second quarter, ended June 20, same-store sales were up 1.3% from a year earlier, compared with a 6.5% rise in the previous quarter.
