NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Donovan Data Systems offices sent its staff home today following an explosion that rocked a nearby technical school building, injuring dozens of people.

Donovan, which provides a variety of data, networking and softare services to the advertising industry, is headquartered at 115 W. 18th St. near the Apex Technical School building that was devasted by an explosion just before noon today.

Early statements issued by the Police Department and the mayor's office said the cause of the blast was suspected to be related to chemicals stored in the building.

More than 200 firefighters and other rescue workers were reported to be swarming around the wrecked school building in the Chelsea area of the city, a short distance north of the World Trade Center disaster zone.

A Donovan spokesperson said none of the company's employees were injured and that its technical systems remained fully functional as the staff was ordered to vacate the building.

The Los Angeles office was open as usual and New York employees are expected to return to the 18th Street building tomorrow, the spokesperson said.
