Dooner rises at Interpublic

Dooner on track to become Interpublic's CEO in 2001Interpublic Group of Cos. will bring McCann-Erickson WorldGroup Chairman-CEO John J. Dooner Jr. into its upper management, as expected. Mr. Dooner, 51, becomes president-chief operating officer of New York-based Interpublic, as well as CEO designate. He will take over as president-chief operating officer on April 1 and as CEO on Jan. 1, 2001. Current Chairman-CEO Philip H. Geier Jr. will remain chairman. It's expected that Jim Heekin, president-CEO of McCann-Erickson Worldwide, will take on Mr. Dooner's McCann WorldGroup role.
