Online ad network DoubleClick has joined forces with OmniSky Corp. for a trial as part of a larger effort to develop a wireless advertising model and standards. The pact between DoubleClick and OmniSky, which provides wireless access for digital organizers, aims to address the challenges of creating and delivering ads in Internet content delivered on hand-held devices, such as smaller screen sizes and lower data delivery speeds. The trial will begin on the OmniSky service in December, preceding a full rollout of the initiative on the OmniSky service in the first quarter of 2001. DoubleClick also will work with OmniSky to offer its wireless advertising services to OmniSky's content partners. Separately, DoubleClick is beginning to test advertising on Vindigo, which creates software for mobile devices that let people search for Web content. The tests will start in the first quarter of 2001 in cities including New York, Chicago and San Francisco.
