BEIJING -- In a first, China is promoting itself to the U.S. via outdoor ads that extol the virtues of Shanghai, its biggest industrial and commercial center.

Expressways in downtown Chicago have been targeted with six, 61 square meter billboard ads showing different aspects of Shanghai. The city is increasingly becoming a hot place for foreign investment due to its industrial infrastructure, including a technically skilled workforce, convenient air, land and water transport links, and its role as one of the most important economic centers in China.

The six billboard ads declare: "Shanghai Welcomes You," "Shanghai -- A Market Full of Vitality," "Shanghai -- A Heaven for Investors," "Shanghai -- A Bridge Between You and China," "Shanghai -- Drummer of China's Reform," and "Shanghai -- An Economic Powerhouse."

The ads were created by the Information Office of the Shanghai Municipal Government.
