Fallon/Minneapolis and PBS were awarded this year's Emmy in the category of Outstanding Commercial, the second time in three years that the agency/client duo has won the honor. The award - presented for "Fish," the story of a goldfish who finds freedom as shot by Y Tu Mama Tambien director Alfonso Cuaron via Independent Media - follows a 2001 Emmy win for "Photobooth" from @radical.media director Errol Morris. ... Olivier Gondry, kid brother to directing superstar Michel Gondry, recently stepped out from behind the scenes and up to the lens to shoot his first U.S. commercial, a spot for the Infiniti Q45, from TBWAChiatDayL.A. via production company Partizan. A veteran of French effects company Buf and L.A.'s Method, Olivier has collaborated with frere Michel on such projects as the White Stripes' video for "Fell In Love With A Girl" and the "Talking Bellybuttons" ad for Levi's and ChiatDay from a few years ago, both via his own L.A. effects house, Twisted Labs. Lately, however, he's been collecting directing credits with music videos for French acts Lacquer and Noir Desir. ... Just as their debut campaign for Nextel hits the streets, TBWAChiatDayNew York creative directors Richard Overall and Simon McQuoid have announced they're leaving the agency to pursue a career as a directing team. The Australian duo will be represented by Go Film. They are not, however, going to come up with a clever name for their partnership. "No, we're not going to do it," says copywriter Overall, who admits it would be easy to come up with a snappy moniker for some other directing team. "But when it's yourself, you get all caught up," he says. ... New York creative/production hybrid The Concept Farm has announced the launch of a dedicated production division, The Production Farm, to handle projects for outside agencies and other clients. The Farmers have long shot their own spots for clients that include ESPN and the History Channel International. The agency's "In Case You Missed It" campaign for the latter earned a Gold Pencil at the 2002 One Show. The division, headed by executive producer Sandra Miller, launches with a roster that includes The Farmers (principals Gregg Wasiak, John Gellos and Griffin Stegner) and Michael Palmieri, director of the Beck video "Lost Cause," who continues to be repped for videos by A Band Apart. The Production Farm will also represent Portland-based director Michael McNamara and hip-hop video specialist Kennedy on a nonexclusive basis.
