Earthlink "bids" for customers on eBay

Published on .

In a guerilla marketing campaign, Internet service provider EarthLink, Pasadena, Calif., pitched its services Feb. 24 on online auction site eBay. Going after customers of competitors Netcom, Prodigy and other ISPs, EarthLink offered a deal to switch to its service and receive a waiver on the usual $25 setup fee, one month of free service and a $50 dollar rebate after two months of regularly priced service of $19.95 a month. EarthLink said its offer is the beginning of a campaign to go after the 13 million ISP "switchers" who change providers each year.
