EarthLink, MindSpring ink merger

Internet access providers EarthLink, Pasadena, Calif., and MindSpring, Atlanta, signed a definitive merger agreement. The newly formed public company will have a base of more than 3 million members. MindSpring, handled by Fallon McElligott, New York, is spending an estimated $100 million a year on advertising following a July decision to dramatically boost spending. EarthLink has been testing what could become a $50 million campaign from BBDO West, Los Angeles.
