Earthquake hits Seattle's 'Ad Alley'

Published on .

A powerful earthquake rocked the Seattle area Wednesday morning, forcing the evacuation of several agencies in the city's "Ad Alley," an area along Seattle's waterfront. Some 190 employees of Omnicom Group's DDB Worldwide were evacuated from their building, as were employees of other nearby agencies. No serious injuries were immediately reported.

The earthquake, which registered a 7.0 on the Richter scale, was the strongest quake to hit Washington state in 52 years. Copyright February 2001, Crain Communications Inc.
