The creators of the cyber-soap opera "The East Village" announced have formed Miscellaneous Films, a New York-based entertainment company that focuses on exploiting the cross-media potential of film and the Internet. The company plans to takes its Internet brand and create traditional films for TV from them. The first film from Miscellaneous Films will be a romantic comedy called "The Wedding," set in Manhattan's East Village. In conjunction with the film, "The East Village" online soap opera will prominently feature a fictionalized account of "The Wedding's" production, chronicling the adventures of the soap's characters as they make their own independent film. "While it is standard nowadays for movies to have accompanying promotional Web sites, never before has a film worked in combination with a Web site that stands on its own as an entertainment property," said Miscellaneous Films President Charles Stuart Platkin.
