Holiday shoppers this year are spending more time and money searching for that perfect gift at online auction sites, particularly eBay. Media Metrix said visitors to auction sites during the first two weeks of the 2000 holiday shopping season increased by 49.8 percent and 62.3 percent, respectively, over corresponding weeks in 1999. The ongoing seasonal shopping survey also found the number of average daily unique visitors to auction sites during the first two weeks of this holiday season, which ended Nov. 26 and Dec. 3, 2000, were 3.0 million and 3.1 million, respectively. Top auction site eBay.com had 2.6 million average daily unique visitors for the week ending Dec.3, 2000 - 61.6 percent more visitors than top retail site Amazon.com, which had 1.6 million average daily unique visitors.
