EBAY SITE ORGANIZES ROAD TRIP TO GATHER ITS USERS TOGETHER

Twist: Injecting some reality into the virtual, Internet auction site eBay is rolling across the U.S. this summer with its first-ever mobile marketing operation. Themed "From our homepage to your hometown," the tour is hitting state fairs, flea markets, antique shows and cultural events. At each stop, the tour provides a carnival-style tent, free hats, T-shirts, pens and subscriptions to eBay's new magazine. Four Compaq PCs allow new and existing users to surf its site. Personnel are on hand to answer questions and help promote eBay's expanding services. Frequent eBay users are also using the tour to meet one another. So far each stop has attracted about 500 to 1,000 people.
