Online merchants reported 228% growth in revenue for the fourth quarter of 1998 compared with the same period in 1997, according to the eCommerce Almanac. Revenue for the year was up 549% over 1997, the report concluded. Also, in an effort to build their online brands, 86% of merchants spent ad dollars on a mix of traditional media, while only 14% focused their advertising dollars exclusively online.
