Ericsson fires Y&R Advertising

Published on .

Swedish wireless-communications powerhouse Ericsson has dropped five-year incumbent Y&R Advertising, New York and London, from the review of its estimated $100 million account, according to a person familiar with the decision. The move follows a string of other account losses at Y&R, including KFC and Philip Morris Cos.' Kraft Foods.

Ericsson previously had narrowed the contenders to two: Y&R and Bartle Bogle Hegarty, London and New York. Now that the company has dropped Y&R, however, it reportedly is taking a second look at TBWA Worldwide, New York and London, and Abbott Mead Vickers/ BBDO, London.

A spokeswoman for Ericsson declined to confirm the report (that Y&R Advertising has been cut), and refused to comment on the timeframe for a decision, but said the review process was still "under way." The review is for Ericsson's consumer business.Copyright December 2000, Crain Communications Inc.
