EU ad rules move ahead

The European Council has formally adopted, without debate, its common position on comparative advertising. A majority of ministers agreed to modify the directive on misleading advertising, following up a political agreement reached by the council last November. The amendment sets a European Union standard but respects existing national legislation. The position will now go back to the European Parliament for a second reading.
