Cotton Bowl Classic, Dallas, is lining up four presenting sponsors to share billing during its New Year's Day college football showdown between teams from the Pac-10 and evolving Big 12 conferences. Integrated media packages, available for less than $1 million each, include category-exclusive in-stadium corporate signage, in-event promotion and merchandising plus advertising during CBS-TV's live broadcast. Erector NYC Marathon Relay is handing off sponsorships to corporations willing to join the toy marketer in paying $1,000 per mile to underwrite the first 26-mile relay taking place during the New York City Marathon on Nov. 12. In addition to designating a 1-mile relay runner, sponsorship includes in-race and program presence plus product promotion. A life-size robot made entirely from Erector pieces will "run" the final leg of the race; it will also tour the U.S. this fall promoting the relay. Erector Set Co., New York, coordinates. Thunderbird Balloon Classic, Scottsdale, Ariz., takes to the air with its 21st annual event Nov. 4 and 5. More than 100,000 are expected for one of the nation's top ballooning festivals. Sponsorship costs range from $1,200 to $25,000; Cox Communications and Norwest Banks are already participating. Big East Snowmobile Show, Syracuse, N.Y., seeks sponsors on various levels between $1,500 and $15,000 for its second annual event Oct. 27 to 29, expected to attract more than 15,000 snowmobiling enthusiasts. U.S. Open Professional Figure Skating Championships, Richmond, Va., will team with sponsors on various levels for the 13th annual event Dec. 1 to 3 showcasing top figure skaters. Sponsorships include arena signage, on-site product promotion and sampling, and local retail tie-ins, for the following costs: title ($650,000), presenting ($200,000) and associate level (varies).
