Coupon distribution declined 5.9% in the first half of 1996 to 157 billion coupons circulated, according to a midyear survey by CMS, Winston-Salem, N.C. Free-standing newspaper inserts gained in share of coupon distribution to 91% during the first half of this year from 89% in the first half of '95. The average coupon face value shrank to 59 cents in the first half of this year vs. 62 cents during the same period last year.
