Excite and Bank One form deal

Published on .

Excite, Redwood City, Calif., and Bank One, Chicago, said they reached an agreement to create a full-service financial center for Excite's 17 million monthly users. The deal could be worth as much as $125 million to Excite, which will grant Bank One exclusive rights to market its products and services on Excite's start page in addition to a co-branded presence on Excite-programmed portions of Netscape's Netcenter and webcrawler.com. The multiyear agreement, based on performance incentives, will give Bank One a new distribution channel for marketing its online banking service and allows Excite to market its personalized front page to Bank One customers. The service is expected to begin in the first half of 1999. The agreement builds on a previous deal between Excite and First USA, a Bank One-owned company, which made Bank One the exclusive provider of credit cards to Excite.
