Excite cements deal with Amazon.com

The search engine Excite announced on Tuesday that online book seller Amazon.com is making a multimillion-dollar ad buy on its site. Amazon.com will now be the exclusive book seller throughout Excite's channels.

In related news, Yahoo! brokered a deal with Amazon.com on Monday, making it the premier book seller on its site. Yahoo! will offer direct links to Amazon.com book titles from every Yahoo! search result and book category page. On Tuesday, Yahoo! named the Sabre Group's Travelocity as the featured air travel booking service of the Netscape Guide by Yahoo! Both deals are part of a plan to thread transaction services through its book and travel guides, explained Jeff Mallett, senior VP-business operations at Yahoo!. Yahoo also announced that it would be tightening its relationship with Netscape; under the Netscape Net Search program, Yahoo! will supply international services, covering 12 countries in Europe and Asia.
